Van Eman has worked with Capella Commercial for over 5 years and brings to the firm nearly 35 years of experience in Commercial Real Estate Brokerage, Development, and Private Equity Investment. He has extensive experience in and represents his clients in all asset classes of commercial real estate including Land for Development and Redevelopment, Retail, Restaurant, Office/Medical Office, Self-Storage, and Multi-Family.
Prior to joining Capella, Currin held Partnership, and Executive Level Management Positions with several well-known and successful Commercial Real Estate Companies in Texas including, VRA Commercial Real Estate, SVP at UCR Urban (now CBRE), VP at NAI-REOC, as well as SVP at an Austin based Real Estate Private Equity Investment Firm. While at UCR Urban, Currin exclusively represented the seller and successfully negotiated the Landmark sale of the 1.3 Million square foot Hill Country Galleria to institutional buyers Invesco and CALstrs “California State Teachers Retirement System”. The Galleria sits on over 100 acres in West Austin suburb of Bee Cave and is a mixed-use Luxury Lifestyle Center with Class A Retail, Restaurant, and Office space as well as the luxury Sonesta Hotel. The Blockbuster deal earned Currin the coveted award for largest retail transaction of the year in the 2015 Austin Business Journal Commercial Real Estate Awards.
Currin’s real estate practice concentrates in urban and suburban development and re-development land, restaurant site selection and leasing as well as office leasing and brokerage. Currin has negotiated high profile restaurant leases in downtown Austin, for many prominent restaurants, such as The Capital Grille, Searsucker, Crave and Blackfinn Ameripup and has handled site selection in the Austin, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio markets for many well know restaurant groups, including, Front Burner Concepts, Free Range Concepts, Blackfinn Ameripub, and Bar Louie. In the Development Space, Currin recently completed development of an Aircraft Hangar Lot Subdivision at Spicewood Airport in Spicewood, Texas and is now launching a new Self-Storage Development, on Hwy 71 in Spicewood.
Prior to Currin’s tenure with traditional commercial real estate brokerages, he was Senior Vice President of a prominent, Private Equity Commercial Real Estate investment firm based in Austin and ran the Acquisitions Department, and Managed the repositioning, marketing and leasing operations for the firm’s commercial real estate portfolio and core real estate assets totaling over 1 Million square feet, throughout Texas the United States.
During his commercial real estate career, Currin has been involved in over $1 Billion dollars in real estate transaction activity and has directed and managed acquisitions, repositioning, and marketing operations on over 3 Million square feet of commercial real estate across all asset classes. He has extensive experience in sourcing and raising equity and debt capital from high-net-worth private clients, family offices, pension funds, charitable foundations, commercial lenders, and life Insurance companies, for commercial real estate acquisitions and development.
Currin graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a B.A. in Economics and Business and was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon “Sig Ep” Fraternity. Currin was also invited to attend the Harvard Business School’s executive education program for Negotiation and Competitive Decision Making. He is a Licensed Texas Real Estate Broker, and member of the International Council of Shopping Centers, Central Texas Commercial Association of Realtors and Real Estate Council of Austin.
Currin currently lives in Austin, Texas where he enjoys, traveling and spending time with his lovely wife, Jena, children and step-children, and watching the Longhorn’s and Indianapolis Colts Football, as well as boating on area lakes and exploring new real estate development opportunities.
