Property Owner Wins Debate Over Unwanted Historical Zoning Of Downtown Austin Warehouse
ABJ – 2/25/2022
A property owner in downtown Austin has sidestepped an unwanted historical zoning designation brought on by the Historic Landmark Commission.
Over the last few months, city leaders have considered whether to preserve a brick warehouse originally built in 1912 at 301 San Jacinto Blvd. Will Houston, whose family has owned the building for nearly a century, has bigger and taller plans for the site, which would require demolition of the existing warehouse. Austin City Council on Feb. 17 discussed the landmark commission’s zoning request but did not take action on the item, which means the request was denied.
